Danielle Smith Guillermo
Danielle Smith Guillermo is a creative, passionate and driven entrepreneur. She leveraged over 30 years’ experience as a dancer and choreographer to become founder and owner of two businesses. Her first business baby is Dance Nerd, a website geared toward college aged dancers. Danielle is passionate about demonstrating that a career in dance goes beyond on-stage performances and provides resources highlighting how dance pairs with other majors and aspects of life. Danielle’s second business is new but she has already found success as a website designer. She possesses an incredible talent in helping others effectively communicate with their audience and customers. Danielle is an example of a powerful woman who is actively carving her own path while giving back to others. She is a Woman of Purpose.
Danielle shared that right now her primary purpose is to “raise my children, support my husband and cultivate my God given talents.” Her passions have changed from dance to now include other interests. The common thread in all she does is to help others get to the next level. Whether it be in dance or helping them create their websites or in other ways. Danielle said, “I like to help people figure out where they want to go and how to get there.”
Danielle previously spent a lot of time and years diligently working for others. However, other than the years of gained experience, she couldn’t see how those jobs were setting her up for the future. She had advanced as far as she could working for others, and Danielle knew it was time for a change and became her own boss. She cites the freedom and level of control over her own path as her favorite things about being an entrepreneur. As a homeschooling mother, it has transformed her whole family’s lifestyle as they now can be flexible while achieving their daily goals. Danielle is careful to not become isolated, as she mostly works independently, and intentionally sets aside time to rest and spend time with friends and family.
Any entrepreneur must be intentional about their approach to work-life balance. When asked about her approach, Danielle shared that she is really firm about setting boundaries. “It is not rude to say no and you can’t be available all the time.” She shared that setting boundaries has noticeably increased her productivity and shared tips on running two business. Danielle does not allow the work for each of her businesses to overlap. She rotates the days she works on Dance Nerd tasks and the tasks for her website business. She also homeschools her children, assists with their extracurricular activities and her husband’s business leaving time for leisure activities. Speaking of leisure time, Danielle, a dedicated Marvel fan, can be found binge watching movies in her down time.
When speaking of the future, Danielle would like to expand both businesses to reach more people. She envisions Dance Nerd being a global brand as she believes that she has only scratched the surface of what that business can be and its impact on the dance community. She plans to travel with her family and continue to intentionally raise her children with her husband.
Danielle is focused, bold, unapologetic and quite impressive as she lives her life with purpose. We hope you were encouraged and emboldened by her story. If she can, so can you!
